Description

Zosimo Bergonzi, a member of the illustrious Bergonzi family, was the son of the world-renowned violin maker Carlo Bergonzi. Carlo, a celebrated figure in violin-making history, was closely associated with the legendary Antonio Stradivari, working alongside him during Stradivari’s later years. Zosimo also had a brother, Michel Angelo Bergonzi, who continued the family’s remarkable craftsmanship-tradition, further cementing the Bergonzis’ legacy within the revered Cremonese school of violin making.

Zosimo’s contributions to the art of violin making, though limited in number, are highly respected for their craftsmanship and tonal quality. The period following the height of the Cremonese school saw relatively few instruments attributed to Zosimo, making his creations exceedingly rare. One such instrument has been certified by Dmitry Gindin, a leading authority in the field, who attests that the violin’s top plate was crafted by Zosimo himself. The back plate of the instrument may not have been constructed by Zosimo, a detail so subtle that only an expert could discern it. Despite this, the instrument exudes exceptional beauty and retains its historical significance.

This violin stands out not only for its visual appeal but also for its extraordinary tonal characteristics. It offers a sound of remarkable depth and Cremonese richness, making it an ideal instrument for a highly skilled soloist.
