Description

This exceptional violin, crafted by the renowned Gaetano Gadda (1901–1956), is a fine example of Italian instrument-making. Gaetano Gadda is the only known pupil of the celebrated Stefano Scarampella (1843–1925).  He represents a bridge between his mentor’s artistry and the rich traditions of northern Italy’s Lombardy region.

Gadda’s workmanship carries the hallmark characteristics of the great Cremonese school. Beyond its visual appeal, the varnish is of a malleable nature, allowing the wood to resonate more freely and enriching the tonal quality of the instrument.

It is believed that Gadda may have crafted this violin under the meticulous guidance of his mentor, Scarampella, during his formative years. Given Scarampella’s advanced age at the time, it is highly likely that Gadda assisted him closely, making significant contributions to Scarampella’s later works. This violin could very well bear traces of Scarampella’s influence and possibly even his hand, adding to its historical and artistic value. Its tone is rich and full of body – a real solo instrument.

This instrument bears the label of Gaetano Gadda 1923 and has full size of 356 cm. This instrument offers musicians a rare and exquisite connection to the traditions of Mantua and Lombardy. The violin comes with a certificate from Philip Kass, a world-renowned expert further affirming its authenticity and origins.
