Description

Born in Ferrara, Italy into a lineage of skilled instrument makers, Gaetano Pareschi forged his own path as a luthier. Though largely self-taught, he began by experimenting with the construction of plucked string instruments before turning his talent to violin-making. Today, he is often revered in the same vein as Leandro Bisiach—renowned not only for his artistry but for his exceptional ability as a master copyist, capable of reproducing historic Italian instruments with stunning precision.

This particular violin, believed by many to be an original Pareschi, is a remarkable example of craftsmanship. It may in fact be an exquisitely executed copy by a highly skilled Italian or Hungarian luthier of the early 20th century—a tribute so faithful and refined that distinguishing it from Pareschi’s own hand proves nearly impossible. The level of detail, elegance, and structural finesse elevates this piece beyond mere imitation into an artwork in its own right.

The reddish-brown varnish gives the instrument a rich visual warmth, and the woodwork reveals meticulous attention to proportion and arching. Acoustically, the violin boasts a vibrant, expressive tone that rivals authentic Pareschi instruments—some of which are valued at three to four times the cost of this piece.
